Human skin is the largest organ and one of the most vital. We overlook and forget to ensure that our skin has all it needs to stay healthy and glowing. Our skin has several vital functions. It protects us from the microorganism invasion, harsh sun rays and other climatic factors. It also regulates our body temperature. It is the sensory medium which allows us to have an extension of the internal environment of our body with the outside environment.

Life is about change, skin whethers as a proof. It is highly sensitive to internal as well as external environmental changes. It undergoes weather changes corresponding to the changing seasons and resulting in change in the moisture status of the skin.

Usually celebrities with good physique and toned bodies with glowing skin are famous. The eternal goddess of beauty Cleopatra was known for her flawless skin which enhanced her ethereal beauty which is immortalized in legends and scriptures and spoken forever. She was known to take fortnightly bath in milk. It gives us the glimpse of historical reference of early civilization which knew the importance of skincare with milk as a skin cleanser and nourisher. Also natural remedies like nutmeg, turmeric, honey etc. were used as facial pack and facial scrub and thereby they played an important role in Anti-aging of skin. of late men’s self grooming and smart appearance to make a good impact in the corporate world is a basic requirement. So skincare for men is also taking lot of importance.

For an average adult human, the skin has a surface area of 1.5 - 2 sq mts. with a normal skin thickness of 2-3 mm and almost weighing over 3 kg. Skin contains sweat glands, cutaneous blood vessels, pigmentary cells melanocytes and more than a thousand cutaneous nerve endings.

Skin’s natural pH level is generally around 5.5 - 6.0. Skin is alive and constantly growing and has approximately 300 million skin cells. It keeps constantly replenishing old dead skin cells with new ones. Sweating is a method of thermo regulation by the skin and thereby the body temperature gets maintained normally.

After intense sun exposure, injured skin cells react and release substances that cause redness and swelling. This is known as Sun Burn. But the degree of irritation also depends on how fair your skin is. People with very pale skin are 10 times vulnerable to sun’s radiation changes than those with dark toned skin.

In order for our skin to take care of us, it’s important for us to care of our skin daily. A fair deal that makes us look better and be healthier. This can be achieved through healthy diet and few skincare measures.
